Project Annapoorna
This is a project which aims to support the most deprived and poor families living in abject poverty and struggling to manage two square meals a day on a regular basis.Monthly support of rice, pulses and edible oil is made to these families to make sure these family members get food every day and use the saved income from food to fulfill other needs in family related to education or other necessary expenses.
A humble beginning has been made with identification of 4 families in need and their sponsors who support a family each with monthly provision. An amount of around INR 500 is required to support the families.
Pooja goes to school again : Pooja’s family consists of her mother Tara, who after meeting with an accident has been rendered differently abled and barely able to move around with crutches. Pooja had 2 siblings one of whom died few years ago.Pooja was going to school earlier and so was her brother. However the compulsions of poverty made her a school drop out and she was struggling hard to earn just enough that could feed her family. Occasionally Tara also requested neighbours for some food. With the monthly ration support that Pooja gets her survival challenges are less as compared to earlier and recently Pooja was also counseled and she has started going to school again. We intend to support this family in their fight for survival till Pooja and her brother complete their education and are able to earn a decent living.
Martha’s tale: Martha’s life is full of challenges with her husband rendered almost immobile due to illness in legs. Her son ended his life a few years ago and this shock depressed Martha. There is a daughter in family too who earlier went to school but is now a school drop out. This family struggles to manage 2 square meals a day. Ration support has brought some respite to family.
Supporting Manju: Manju is a widow lady with 2 children. Her son met with an accident and as part of recovery underwent a major surgery and has rods in his leg which cause difficulty in walking. Her daughter goes to college. She works very hard to run her household and manage expenses but there were days when the family did not have enough to eat. With ration support the family now never sleeps hungry again.Manju’s daughter is continuing her education and we hope she successfully completes her education and ready to take on the challenges of life.
Our Javni smiles again : Javni Chachi, as she is popularly known in her basti is a widow with a grown up son who is unemployed. She is naturally skilled and manages a living by acting as a traditional birth attendant in her basti. She works very hard to earn a living and manage household expenses. With the ration support from Sparsh she says basic survival challenges are over now and I feel happy as the burden of of running the house seems less. She says “I can smile now”.
